OCEAN2020 first simulated trial

OCEAN2020 first simulated trial

The first simulated trial of the OCEAN2020 project took place from 15 – 17 January 2020 at the premises of the Fraunhofer-Institut für Optronik, Systemtechnik und Bildauswertung (IOSB).

The trial gathered more than 30 participants from 9 partners, coming from 5 distributed simulation labs and one C4I lab.

Within the trial two scenarios were exercised, the first one to prevent an attack from a threatening speed boat to a European critical infrastructure at sea and the latter to stop a mine laying vessel dropping mines in European coastal waters. The hearth of both scenarios was the extension of the ISTAR capability of European navies by the deployment of unmanned assets, the fusion of the sensor data they provided and thus the improvement of the Situational Awareness of European Maritime Commanders.

Cooperating in an exemplary manner, the 9 partners demonstrated how the EU funded defence research can contribute to better technologies for maritime surveillance.
