OCEAN2020 – The Mediterranean Sea Demonstration – an overview

The aim of the OCEAN2020 (Open Cooperation for European mAritime awareNess) webinar is to illustrate the project and provide an overview of the results achieved during the first live sea demonstration, hold in the Gulf of Taranto on the 20 and 21 November 2019.

 

After an introductory remark about the broader political context of current and future EU initiatives provided by Sylvia Kainz-Huber, European Commission, the webinar will focus on OCEAN2020, the largest EU defence research project funded so far, and the results achieved during the first sea demonstration.

 

Dirk Tielbuerger, European Defence Agency and Antonino Arecchi, OCEAN2020 Project Coordinator will illustrate these aspects, in their respective keynote speeches.

 

The discussion will be moderated by Alessandro Marrone Head of Defence Programme, Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI).

Coordinated by Leonardo, the OCEAN2020 Project involves 43 countries of 15 European countries. It aims to achieve a wide set of operational and technical objectives, ranging from enhanced situational awareness, autonomy, cost effectiveness and increased interoperability for joint missions.
