OCEAN2020 – Small actors, large players, one defence

OCEAN2020 – Small actors, large players, one defence

The aim of this new OCEAN2020 (Open Cooperation for European mAritime awareNess) webinar is to illustrate the role of SMEs in the frame of OCEAN2020 project, illustrating both their contribution to the projects and the expected benefits in the medium/long term. Within OCEAN2020 , the largest EU funded defence research project which deals with enhanced situational awareness at sea through the use of different kinds of Unmanned Systems, SMEs represent a key asset, since the consortium consists of 43 partners from 15 European countries, 11 of them are SMEs. OCEAN2020 consortium represents the whole supply chain since partners are large players, SMEs, Universities and Research Institutes, with end users. This large European dimension is fundamental to demonstrate the possibility of pursuing future collaboration on defence capabilities and programmes and the inclusiveness of small countries in the overall picture.

After an introductory remark given by the EC and EDA about the wide context of the EU policy in favor of SMEs and the related EDA perspective, some partners of the OCEAN2020 consortium will present their experience and their achievements in this project.

The discussion will be moderated by Alessandro Marrone Head of Defence Programme, Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI).
