Italian FREMM Frigates Bergamini class
Under the Italo-French FREMM cooperation programme, Italy has planned the acquisition of 10 multi-mission frigates (6 General Purpose, characterized by high operational flexibility, and 4 in ASW variant, specifically designed for submarine warfare operations).
 
Both variants are equipped with enhanced anti-aircraft (AAW) and anti-surface warfare (ASuW) capabilities, with hangars for SH90/EH101 helicopters.
 
The ASW configuration has a towed sonar and torpedo launching systems.

 

ITS Fasan
ITS Virginio Fasan (F 591) is the second Italian FREMM frigate and first in ASW (Anti Submarine Warfare) configuration. The unit - built in the Fincantieri shipyard in Riva Trigoso – was launched on 31 March 2012 and later transferred to Muggiano shipyard's floating dock (La Spezia) for the completion of outfitting and sea acceptance trials. ITS Virginio Fasan was delivered to the Italian Navy on 19 December 2013. Attualmente is based in La Spezia.
